Auditions for Concert Choir’s 2016-17 season will be held the morning of Saturday, September 17, just before Workshop Day. Concert Choir is AAYC’s upper division ensemble for 12 to 16 year old girls and boys (boys with unchanged voices) who love to sing and enjoy challenging repertoire.
Auditions will be in Huron High School’s choir room, #7122. Scholarships are available, based on need. Sign up for a 10 minute appointment by clicking on the Auditions drop-down menu, above. Tell your friends about it too!
AAYC will hold auditions on the morning of Saturday, September 17, particularly for Concert Choir, which still has openings. Auditions will be in Huron High School’s music wing between 9 and 10 am, possibly earlier. Singers who audition successfully and are invited to join the choir are expected to attend the mandatory workshop that day. Registration is from 10 to 10:50 am, and Choir workshop (also at Huron High School) will be from 11 am to 1:00 pm, following by an all-member/parent meeting in the auditorium from 1-1:30 pm.
Concert Choir is AAYC’s more experienced and advanced ensemble. Boys and girls are ready for this choir when they can sing comfortably in multiple parts and have mastered basic solfège skills for sight-reading. Members are required to sing larger and more dissonant intervals. Emphasis is on sight-reading, part-singing, and more challenging repertoire, along with foreign language, and advanced choral technique. Concert Choir occasionally tours locally, nationally, and internationally.
To schedule an appointment, just click on the Auditions drop-down menu.
Although we’re very sad to be losing Lori Harris, AAYC Administrator of the past seven years, to a full time job at the university, we’re also pleased to introduce to you our new Administrator, Jamie Phillips. Jamie and her family live in Ann Arbor, and their daughter will be a new member of Descant Choir. Jamie has an extensive background in the sciences, music, organization and administration, plus successful fundraising for Burns Park events. Jamie will begin with us in August, and you’ll get to meet her at Workshop Day on September 17. Please welcome Jamie Phillips to AAYC!
Please also help us in thanking Lori Harris for her enduring graciousness, organizational skills, hard work, and her long and loyal service to Youth Chorale. We’ll miss her very much and wish her well at U of M!
Workshop Day kicks off Ann Arbor Youth Chorale’s 2016-17 season, and we’ll accomplish a lot: members will receive their AAYC t-shirt, get a photo taken for attendance, have the chance to purchase an AAYC tote bag for $10, meet their directors and fellow singers, rehearse songs, and bring a parent or guardian to the meeting at the end. At that meeting, the choirs will actually sing something they just learned that afternoon!
Regular rehearsals begin the following Tuesday, September 20, at Bethlehem United Church of Christ (BUCC), 423 S 4th Ave, Ann Arbor.

AAYC is having another California Pizza Kitchen (CPK) fundraiser, and the timing couldn’t be better! From Friday, May 6 through Sunday, May 8, just present this AAYC CPK Flyer (hardcopy or on a mobile device) at their Briarwood Mall restaurant and they’ll donate 20% of your order to Youth Chorale. It’s as simple as that!
Friday, May 6th is the Spring Concert dress rehearsal – maybe catch dinner at CPK before or after rehearsal?
Saturday, May 7th is our Spring Concert – celebrate a great concert with dinner afterwards!
Sunday, May 8th is Mother’s Day – relax and enjoy pizza or other CPK menu items, with no cooking!
This easy way to give to AAYC runs all three days for dine-in, carry-out, curbside orders, catering, plus all beverages. CPK will accept both paper and digital copies of the flyer, so please share it with family, friends and business associates who might like to help Ann Arbor Youth Chorale. Thanks to CPK for making this fundraiser available to us!
Feeling lucky? Purchase a ticket (or many!) for the 50/50 Raffle at our upcoming Spring Concert on May 7. Half the proceeds will be awarded as a cash prize to one very lucky winner! AAYC will keep the other half as a fundraiser to keep our choral programs strong.
Tickets will be sold only on concert day from 2:15 until the performance begins at 4:00 pm. The winner will be drawn at random during the concert.
You must be present to win, and you must be at least 18 years old to purchase a ticket. However, they can be given to children under 18, and there is no age restriction for winning the prize. The maximum prize value is $500.
Raffle tickets are $1 apiece and can be purchased for cash only. Only 1,000 will be sold, so be sure to buy them early. And good luck!!
Both Descant and Concert Choirs present their beautiful Spring Concert on Saturday, May 7 at Bethlehem United Church of Christ, 423 S. Fourth Avenue in Ann Arbor. The concert begins at 4:00 pm and is followed by a reception downstairs. Tickets are sold through members in advance and also at the door: $10 for adults; $5 for children, students and seniors (65+).
AAYC’s Spring Concert promises a lifetime of memories for singers, families and friends. You won’t want to miss it!
