Here are all the details you’ll need about trying out for AAYC’s “Chorale Cabaret” talent showcase, scheduled for March 17, in conjunction with the Silent Auction. We know lots of choir members will want to get involved – we hope you will too!
- IN-PERSON TRYOUTS for “Chorale Cabaret” are set for Sunday, Feb 5, 2017, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1500 Scio Church Road (corner of Greenview). Look for signs for where to enter and where to go once you’re inside. Parking at the church is easy and free. A parent or guardian should stay, and is welcome to watch your tryout.
In-person tryout times are between 3:00-7:00 pm. To choose your 10-minute time slot, follow this link: www.SignUpGenius.com/go/4090F45ACAD2FA6F58-chorale. If you are trying out with others, please list all your group’s names in the same time slot. You have until Friday, February 3 at 9:00 pm to sign up.
A piano and a Bose speaker with Bluetooth connectivity will be available at tryouts. Please bring anything else you need for your act to be successful (sheet music, recorded music, music stands, props, script, etc.). Four friendly judges will be there to rate how well prepared your act is, your presentation, entertainment value, technique, and stage presence.
- If you cannot try out on Sunday, February 5th, or, if you prefer, YOU MAY SUBMIT YOUR TRYOUT ON VIDEO. Simply upload your video to your Google Drive (you must have an active Gmail account) and share the video with firstname.lastname@example.org. If you have questions on how to do this contact email@example.com for help. All videos must be received by 9:00 p.m. on Friday, February 3rd. Your video will be viewed and rated only by the same four friendly judges.
- Please also fill out a short online application form, whether trying out in person or on video: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScb6hjnbO8IryAYD0ARo8iaMFe6GcnguyU7-FZEuBkfUHjrtw/viewform. This is so we know who you are and what you plan to do for your tryout.
Children trying out will be notified about which acts are chosen by February 7 at the latest. Remember that everyone in AAYC participates in the show, as both Descant and Concert Choirs will perform that evening. This is a performance as well as a social and fundraising event, and we expect all singers and families to attend.
All acts that are accepted for the show are required to come to the dress rehearsal, Thursday, March 16 at First Baptist Church of Ann Arbor, 517 E. Washington St. between 5:30-8 pm. Watch for exact times and other details after tryouts.

We’re incredibly proud of our Concert Choir’s beautiful performance with the Flint Symphony Orchestra! On Saturday, November 12, they performed in Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 under the direction of Enrique Diemecke at The Whiting in Flint. AAYC has sung with the FSO several times before, and we hope this collaboration continues because we love singing with them!
Here are a few of the many photos of Concert Choir from that weekend. Check out the rest on our Facebook page!
AAYC choir members are now selling fresh winter greenery to brighten up the home: garlands, wreaths, plants, poinsettias in various sizes and colors, and more. These make great holiday gifts and housewarming presents, and you can order them from any choir member. The sale, which helps raise funds for Youth Chorale, continues through Tuesday, November 15.
